Tillman the Skateboarding Do

Tillman is an incredibly talented English Bulldog. He takes skateboarding to a whole new level of cool. A lot of people have seen videos going around of an English Bulldog and his skateboarding abilities. This video is of the lesser known, but more talented, Tillman. That is why they call him "the other skateboarding English Bulldog.”

I couldn’t resist posting these two videos of Tillman in Los Angeles. Traveling his way through parks, streets and even the famous Hollywood walk of fame, Tillman turns heads wherever he goes and for good reason! Tillman’s skateboarding abilities and sense of balance are incredible. It just goes to show that dogs are much more intelligent than a lot of people like to give them credit for.

Jessica, the Pet Hippo?

It is no secret that I am a huge lover of all pets and animals, especially dogs, but hippos???

A South African family has adopted a unique animal for their treasured pet, a hippopotamus. Considered to be one of the most dangerous of wild animals, a hippo is a rare choice. Jessica washed up in flood water and was captured by a park ranger, Tony. She was only 1 day old. Jessica developed a strong bong with Tony and his wife. Acting more like the family dog, Jessica wanders in an out of the house and makes herself right at home. Hippos live well into their 40’s, so this hippo could be around for a long, long time.

Oprah Mourns the Loss of her Dog, Gracie.

Oprah writes of the tragic loss of her dog, Gracie, in the most recent issue of "O” magazine. In the magazine, Oprah writes "While outside, the golden retriever found another dog’s ball and accidentally choked to death on it. Of that fateful day, Oprah says, "Just as I reached them, the security guard looked up and said, ‘I’m sorry, ma’am. We tried everything. I’m sorry. She’s gone.”

She has had them on her show MANY times. I feel for her and understand her loss. It is no less than losing a beloved family member. Gracie, her golden retriever, was only 2 years old. Oprah says she learned many lessons from Gracie and she writes.

Meadow dale County Park, a Great Dog Hike.

Located in Edmonds, WA. Meadow dale County Park is one of my favorite dog escapes. It is not only close to my home, but when I visit, it makes me feel hundreds of miles away from the hussle and bustle of city life. The park is very large, which you can’t quite tell from the parking lot when you arrive. From the parking area, there is a nature trail that winds its way down 1.25 miles, through thick forested trees, a running fresh water stream, ending up at the sea. Many of the native growth habitats are mentioned, with signage, along the way. At the end of the hike is a beautiful, pristine beach. Quiet, peaceful and visited by very few people, which makes it great to take the dogs for a nice run along the shoreline.

Why? A short story to illustrate…

A young man was walking along a beach when he saw a old woman scooping up starfish off the sand and tossing them back into the waves. Curious, he asked what she was doing. The woman replied "When the tide goes out it leaves these starfish stranded on the beach. They will dry up and die before the tide comes back in, so I am throwing them back into the sea where they can live.”

The young man then asked her "But this beach is miles and miles long and there are many thousands of stranded starfish, most will die before you could possibly reach them - do you really think throwing a few back is going to make any difference?”

The woman picked up a starfish and looked at it, then she threw it into the waves. "Made a difference to that one!” she said.

Considering this, the younf guy continued his walk along the beach. After a while he arrived at a place where a river ran into the sea and he turned back inland, walking alongside the bank. He was still pondering the words of the starfish woman when he noticed a group of people wading about in the river trying to catch floating objects and throwing them safely onto the river bank. When he got closer he saw that the people were rescuing puppies which were struggling in the water and floating downstream towards the sea. Though many of the puppies were thrown to safety, many more were being washed out to sea, never to be seen again.

The young man stood there watching for a while, thinking about what the starfish-woman had told him. He knew that the people in the river were making a difference to every siingle puppy they saved, but he thought there might possibly be a way to make a bigger difference. He called out to the people who were fishing out the little dogs. "Have some of you tried to go upstream and maybe stop people tossing them into the river in the first place?”.

The young man had learned an important lesson from the starfish thrower. When you face impossible odds, you do the best you can, however little it seems, even if it means helping just one or two creatures. He had the belief though, that with the help of many people, and a little thought, it may well be possible to make a much bigger difference.

So, this is what Woofy’s Trust is all about. Our ultimate objective is for no healthy dog to be put down, where the only reason is financial. Call us optimistic, but we think that with a half-decent idea, and more importantly a great deal of work by many dedicated people, amazing things can be achieved.

Sunset Roden

Talking of amazing, I took this picture on the way home from our last visit to Roden before collecting Woofy. An absolutely stunning sunset.
